Overview
We are looking for a dynamic and proactive Java Test Automation Engineer to join an Agile team in Brussels on a long-term, hybrid engagement. The ideal candidate will not only execute automated tests but also actively contribute to test automation, test strategy, and overall software quality. You should have strong hands-on experience with Java and Playwright, along with BDD/Gherkin, API testing, and Agile/Scrum practices, and be able to work autonomously while providing substantive advice to the team.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyzing and clarifying functional and non-functional requirements
- Designing, developing, maintaining, and documenting automated tests
- Drafting and managing test cases
- Following the bug lifecycle
- Documenting test results and reporting on software quality to developers, analysts, QA, and other stakeholders
- Actively contribute to the test automation strategy , including:
- choice of tools
- test coverage
- test architecture
- Advising on the optimization of the test approach and test processes
- Working within an Agile/Scrum environment
Must Have Skills
- At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in test automation
- Very good knowledge of Java
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright , this is a must-have.
- Experience with BDD/Gherkin , for example Cucumber
- Experience with Selenium
- Experience with XRAY
- Good knowledge of JIRA and Confluence
- Experience with API testing and REST
- Good knowledge of SQL
- Basic knowledge of JavaScript, JSON, and XML
- Basic knowledge of HTML/Angular
- Insight into synchronous and asynchronous communication, such as APIs and events
- Good knowledge of test methodologies, with ISTQB or similar being a plus.
- Proactive, communicative and independent
- Capable of contributing to test architecture and automation strategy in addition to hands-on testing.
Nice to have
- ISTQB certification or similar
- Experience setting up and/or maintaining Java-based test automation frameworks

Dutch or French-speaking, with a good knowledge of English
- Experience contributing to test automation strategy in Agile teams
- Ability to provide substantive advice on tools, coverage, architecture, and process optimization
