Overview
The Data Base Administrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment including overseeing the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing Information Technology with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the company.
This MS SQL Server DBA role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with the SLA’s, establishing and maintaining communication with technology suppliers to keep your ‘customers’ updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.
Job Responsibilities
- You will join and support the DBA team.
- You will be responsible for installation and configuration and maintenance database servers and processes.
- You are responsible for upgrade, consolidate and migrate of databases between MS SQL Servers from a-z : preparation - execution - aftercare. This may be easy setups as well as critical platforms with high availability.
- You are responsible for the management of the different databases in terms of performance, tuning, quality, security, availability and consistency for the MS SQL Server
- You support Azure SQL databases
- You support application owners with questions and problems related to the setup and migration of MS SQL databases
- You work out improvement proposals and make sure the infrastructure is running smooth.
- You pro-actively suggest technical optimalisations.
Must Have Skills
- Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field (preferred)
- 2–3 years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience
- Proven experience troubleshooting and resolving SQL Server database issues
- Practical experience with backups, restores, and recovery models
- Working knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MS SQL Server
- Experience implementing operational automations using scripts (PowerShell, T‑SQL, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with Windows Server environments, including Active Directory
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2017, 2019,
and/or 2022
Nice to have
- First exposure to performance tuning and optimization using monitoring/troubleshooting tools
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups
- Basic knowledge of Azure SQL databases
- Basic knowledge of Dell EMC NetWorker for backup/restore
- Basic knowledge of RedGate SQL Monitor (or similar monitoring tools)
- Proactive mindset to propose creative, structural solutions
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Team player with good collaboration skills
- Willingness to develop deeper expertise in the
above domains
