Overview
We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join the IT department. The ideal candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for the entire network infrastructure, manage and optimize switching, routing, firewalling, WiFi, and VPN environments, lead network projects, and coach a junior colleague. Fluency in Dutch is mandatory.
Job Responsibilities
- Within the team, you are the point of contact for the network: from the core and access switches in the offices and warehouses to the firewalls, WiFi coverage, and connectivity between our sites.
- You manage, monitor, and optimize this environment, and you contribute to projects such as upgrades, expansions, and migrations.
- Operational management of the network infrastructure: switching, routing, firewalling, WiFi and VPN.
- Following up on incidents and changes, including root cause analysis and structural solutions.
- Monitoring documentation, configuration standards, and network security.
- Executing and managing projects: from preparation and planning to implementation and delivery.
- Coaching a junior colleague: you guide him or her step by step through networking matters and make knowledge transfer a regular habit.
- Within the framework of NIS2, co-monitoring network security: segmentation, firewall policy, access control, and hardening.
- Your responsibilities do not stop at the network's boundaries. You actively monitor the market for new trends to help build the roadmap. Depending on the organization's needs, you participate in broader support for the operational teams on the shop floor.
- Because our operations continue outside of standard office hours, you are prepared to perform occasional maintenance, upgrades, and interventions early in the morning, in the evening, or on weekends. Interventions are planned in advance and agreed upon in consultation with the team.
Must Have Skills
- Extensive experience as a network engineer with demonstrable operational network management experience
- Experience with Cisco network equipment (must)
- Fluency in Dutch (professional communication with senior management and teams)
- Fluency in English (professional communication)
- Structured way of working: documentation, planning, and maintaining overview across multiple tasks
- Pragmatic and calm attitude; methodical approach during incidents
- Professional and clear communication style, able to translate technical aspects into understandable language for senior management
- Flexible attitude and willingness to tackle tasks outside strict specialization
- Category B driving licence to travel between sites and head offices in the Port of Antwerp
- Availability for occasional maintenance, upgrades, and interventions outside standard office hours (early morning, evening, weekends), planned and agreed in consultation with the team
Nice to have
- Experience with Palo Alto firewalls
- Knowledge of or experience with information security standards such as ISO 27001 or regulations such as NIS2
- Knowledge of or experience in a warehouse, transport, or logistics environment
- Enjoyment in sharing knowledge and patience to coach a junior colleague (mentoring mindset)
